In short
The Stoa is a Stoic philosophy course app made by LD Coda, LLC. It has no account, collects nothing about you and sends nothing anywhere. Your progress, notes and journal stay on your phone.
What the app keeps on your phone
- Your course progress: the day you started, the days you marked complete, your streak and the stations you have read.
- What you write: notes on course days, weekly reviews, evening reflections and journal entries.
- Your practice logs, such as the morning, midday and evening tracker.
- Your birth year, only if you enter it for the memento mori exercise.
- Your bookmarks and settings: the Stone or Parchment theme, and the daily reminder (on or off, and its time).
These live in the app's own storage on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them. Reset route progress in Settings clears the stations you have read; Restart from today on the Course tab starts the course again. Your phone's own backup (Google or iCloud) may include app data, depending on your backup settings.
What leaves your phone
Nothing. The whole course is inside the app, and The Stoa makes no network requests: no analytics, no crash reports, no ads, no account and no sync. Its Android build does not include the internet permission, so it cannot connect to the internet at all.
Notifications and permissions
The daily reminder is off until you turn it on in Settings. It is a local notification: your phone schedules it and shows it, and nothing is sent to us or to a push service. When you turn it on, your phone may ask you to allow notifications. Turning the reminder off cancels it.
On Android, the app also declares these permissions, which Android grants without asking: vibration (a short tap when you mark a day complete), running after a restart (so a scheduled reminder survives your phone restarting) and keeping the phone awake briefly (so the reminder can be shown). None of them gives access to your data.
Third parties
None. The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or payment libraries. It is built with Capacitor and uses its haptics and local notifications plug-ins, which run on your phone and send nothing anywhere. If The Stoa is offered through Google Play or the App Store, the store handles any download under its own privacy policy.
